Inspiring projects building the resilience of Queensland communities to natural disasters were celebrated at the 2021 Get Ready Queensland Resilient Australia Awards held in Brisbane tonight.

The Commonwealth and state government have established a $20 million fund to strengthen key infrastructure to better withstand natural disasters, and in doing so have changed how Betterment funding is delivered in Queensland.

Disaster assistance is now available to Gold Coast, Logan and Scenic Rim councils following sustained heavy rainfall and ongoing flash-flooding across Southern Queensland.

Recovery assistance grants of up to $25,000 are now available to support the recovery of primary producers in Far North Queensland impacted by Tropical Cyclone Niran.

Councils, state agencies and not-for-profits will share in more than $19 million in resilience and risk reduction funding to help communities better prepare for future disasters.
